REMINGTON SERIAL NUMBER CHART CRACKED
The cracked 1100 I didn't get to examine had a hole drilled and was still trucking. I have seen a LOT of Standard 20s used in Skeet and no issues. I have heard of receiver cracks and issues with the LW 20s, but I have only ever seen two 12 gauges with cracks, and one of those had enlarged gas ports (didn't get to check the other one).

One must be careful with Remington serial numbers because the serial numbers for the Models 1882/83 and the Model 1889 are the same. In fact, the 1100 set a record in 1978 for the most shells. The Remington 1100 is a descendent of the Model 58 and 878 shotguns. The 1100 is well known to be reliable and massively tough shotgun. Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle or shotgun on the left side, just forward of the receiver the first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. REMINGTON SHOTGUN SERIAL NUMBER STRUCTURE (This has nothing to do with the barrel code & the barrel code has nothing to do with the serial numbers) Model 870 LETTER PREFIX 1950 TO APPROX 1968: NO SERIAL NUMBER PREFIX 1968 TO PRESENT: LETTERS USED (IN SEQUENCE) S-68, T-74, V-78, W-84, X-90, A-91, B-94, C-97, D-01, AB-05 Model 870 LETTER SUFFIX (DESIGNATES GAUGE) V 12 GA. The barrel has a 3' chamber, but the info on the receiver suggests it is only for 2 3/4' shells - the receiver serial number ends with a 'V', and the receiver doesn't say 'magnum' anywhere. I've located a really nice one which is supposedly a 3' magnum.

They continued to mark the date code on the end flap of the shipping box. (*) On 8/9/99 they stopped stamping the barrels with the date code.
